Walton Oak have had some amazing achievements and extremely exciting events to share with the local community, most recently hosting a visit by none other than a Royal Navy Merlin MKII Helicopter that actually landed in the school field!!
Watch the moment Parents, Children and Staff waved them off back up into the clouds!
Last week we were incredibly fortunate to have been visited by the Royal Navy. The weather affected their journey from Cornwall but they reached us in the afternoon to provide an incredible spectacle for all and a wonderful learning experience for the children.
The sound, wind and sense of power produced by the Merlin helicopter was something to behold and we are certain that it will live long in the memory. Every child got to hop aboard the aircraft and have a look round; many asked questions of the flight crew and engineers who accompanied them.
We learned about what the helicopter was built to do, how much it cost to build, what the different roles and responsibilities are within the Fleet Air Arm and how long you’d have to train in order to become a pilot. The children were excited, curious and learned such a lot.
We are so grateful to all involved in making this event happen. We know that there are a number of children who have been particularly inspired to explore a future in the forces and we have seen some wonderful writing and and art work related to the event too.
We’d like to thank each and every one of the Royal Navy flight crew and engineers who were all so accommodating and encouraging.
This kind of thing does not happen very often and we feel incredibly lucky to have benefited from such an awesome experience.

We published this post a while ago from the perspective of an ex pupil who started at Nursery through to Year 6
“I started at Walton Oak Nursery in 2008 when I was three and half years old. I was a little bit nervous but I had no reason to worry. I remember enjoying the craft activities, playing in the outdoor area, learning songs and nursery rhymes, especially learning to share and make friends. I still have these friends in Year 6.
My time at Walton Oak has been wonderful; it has been that good, I don’t want to leave. The school has built my confidence and given me opportunities of a lifetime. I couldn’t have asked for a better start in life. Who knows where I will be off to next…”
It’s a wonderful read and gives an incredible insight into an amazing school:

All Walton Oak School staff, parents and pupils can be extremely proud of this!
Once again, thanks to Walton Oak School Deputy Headteacher Dan Sonley for sending across news of such a proud achievement by Walton Oak School!
“We’re very proud of the range and quality of sporting provision at Walton Oak. Children enjoy plenty of opportunities to experience new activities and events and get to put their skills to the test through competition.
We were so pleased, then, to have some of this success recognised at the recent Elmbridge Sports Personality of the Year Awards; an event celebrating the achievements, dedication, talent and hard-work of local athletes, coaches and volunteers.
The event was hosted by Cllr. Barry Cheyne – Chairman of the Elmbridge Sports Council and sponsored by Sandown Park Racecourses, David J Archer Group of Companies, TGL Group, Active Surrey and Places for People. ”

We were incredibly honoured to have made the shortlist, especially considering the high calibre and success of the other school teams being nominated.
There was certainly surprise and delight when the results were announced with Walton Oak orienteering team in first place!
But there’s more…
In front of a packed audience at the Cecil Hepworth Playhouse, our specialist PE teacher, Miss Slaymaker, was presented with the ‘Mayors Award for Outstanding Service to Sport’ for her incredible work and dedication in developing PE and Sport at Walton Oak over the past seven years. It was richly deserved and fantastic recognition for all her efforts.
