Remembrance Day Services and Parades

Many Parades, Services and Wreath Laying events will be held across Surrey this Sunday to mark Remembrance Day and allow residents to pay their respects to those servicemen and women who lost their lives in conflicts around the world.

Walton on Thames

Walton on Thames will see road closures begin at 10:15am to prepare for the Joint Churches service being held at Walton War Memorial.

The ceremony and service will begin at Walton War Memorial on Ashley Road at 10:40am.

At 11am there will be a 2 minutes silence followed by a parade at 11:15.

At 11:30 Walton Baptist Church invites the community for refreshments.

After the service, the parade, lead by Oatlands Park Pipe Band, will march down New Zealand Avenue, through The Heart Shopping Centre walkway and back to High Street.

Some roads will be closed from 1015am until 1130am.

The closure covers all roads leading to the War Memorial Island where High Street, New Zealand Avenue, Ashley Road and Hersham Road meet.

From 1015 until 1130, High Street from Churchfield Road to the War Memorial will be closed to traffic. From 1115 to 1145, High Street from the Bridge Street junction to Churchfield Road will be closed. Part of New Zealand Avenue will be closed from 1115 to 1130 to allow safe passage for the parade.

Memorial Chapel – Cobham’s War Memorial

The Chantry Chapel in the north east corner of the church contains Cobham’s original War Memorial.

Unusually this is inside the church, hence the formal Remembrance Day ceremony in Cobham is held inside the church, with a parade of veterans, the British Legion, cadets and scouts and guides before and after the service.

The parade is organised by the British Legion.

A new external memorial was built on The Tilt just a few years ago.
