There’s no need to leave Walton when looking for a bite to eat. The local dining scene has changed loads in the past few years, with many new restaurants. And those new restaurants are largely independent (yay!) and nice. There’s also a few independent Walton staples that are still going strong. Here are my best picks:
– Fabulous independent coffee shop at The Heart (where Flours used to be).
Why support a nationwide chain when we have such a great cafe? Power sockets at each table allow anyone with work to do the ability to work in a buzzing environment.

– Turkish – You must have been here by now.
If not, you really do need to go. It’s great for a date night or meal out with friends, certainly the nicest Walton has to offer. The décor is nice, the lights are dimmed in the evening for ambiance and the menu has something for absolutely every one – you could easily be afraid of Turkish food and find more than one menu option that makes you salivate.

– Italian – Lovely traditional Italian restaurant mainstay in old Walton.
Perfect spot for a night out with all your favourite Italian dishes cooked to perfection.

– I’m constantly surprised at the number of locals who don’t know about the George.
Yes, it’s not in an area most people would think to go looking for a pub in (opposite Rydens School) or think it’s another pub serving leftover Thai food from the 90s but the Thai food here rivals any in Surrey plus the prices are cheap, the service fast and the presentation fabulous.

– Riverside pub. In case you missed it, The Swan has been taken over and redone.
The new owner has revamped the décor, injecting more character into the bog standard gastro pub it’s most recently been. He also has ambitious plans for the future, particularly in the riverside garden this summer. The menu is enticing, though the London prices might be a bit too Weybridge for Walton.

– Craft Beer. Yes, the Craft beer trend is so entrenched we even have our very own craft beer centre on the high street.
Rotating visiting beers and a display fridge for you to take your time to choose. It’s also a smokehouse, with tasty meat at good prices. If meat and beer is what you’re after, this is where you need to be.

– Spanish – Sure it’s long established itself as the place for tapas and Spanish wine, but it’s still worth including.
No guide to dining out in Walton-on-Thames would be complete without including them. A family owned and operated restaurant since 2005, it quite possibly has the most buzzing atmosphere in town.

– pub – bit of an in-between of Walton and Weybridge.
The new owners and new menu are a vast improvement over recent years. The inside hasn’t changed too much but the food certainly has. It’s easily the best spot locally for a super foods salad.
