Meet the new owners of the Moondrop Cafe – opening on Tuesday June the 11th
I’m Katie a local girl who grew up in Hersham and James is from Wellington, New Zealand.
We met 12 years ago when we both were living in London for work and moved back to Hersham, where my family are, after we got married and when I was pregnant with our first child.
We now have 3 children – two girls (8 and 6) who attend Burhill School and our two year old son.
I am a lawyer working part time in Canary Wharf and James is a chef of over 20 years experience.
It was my parents who asked us if we’d like to go into business with them and renovate and run the café!
We went to see it at Christmas, and although it was a completely derelict shell, we were so excited about the possibilities and potential before us!
The four of us decided to go for it and bought the café in March.
We have spent the last few months renovating and refurbishing it with the help of some great people, in particular Neri from Wood Project Carpentry who has built us some fabulous seating and a beautiful counter!
We open for business at 7am on Tuesday 11 June
Regular opening hours will be 07:00 to 16:30 – Monday to Friday
Breakfast includes a range from traditional breakfast baps to birchler museli and granola yoghurt bowls.
Lunch will include a wide variety of salads to be paired with changing protein options of fish, meat and vegan alternative.
In addition, there will be a daily hot special, the “House Favourites”, for example a southern fried buttermilk chicken burger; a Thai beef noodle salad; or smoked haddock, new potatoes and poached egg.
We offer a daily different lunchbox “the Moonbox” such as:
Porchetta with salsa verde, roasted mushroom orzo and freshly baked ciabatta
Madras pulled lamb with bombay potatoes, indian slaw, coriander salsa and flatbread (as pictured below)
There will also be a selection of cold and grilled sandwiches, with a choice of sour dough toasties, quesadilla or panini.
Extensive hot and cold drinks are available, to be paired with a range of fresh pastries, cakes and bakes.
Our daily lunch specials and Moondrop lunchboxes will be updated daily on the Moondrop Cafe Facebook page so please do give us a ‘Like’ and check in daily for updates!
And if you’re wondering about the name….this came from our eldest daughter who is now 8.
A few years ago she was asked what she wanted to do when she grew up – she said all that she wanted was her own restaurant called The Moondrop.
So when this opportunity came along, we felt we couldn’t call it anything else!
We all look forward to seeing you very soon at the Moondrop Cafe!
